New Zealand - the journey that changed our lives

When we’ve decided to leave Italy to chase our dream of traveling without limits, we didn’t have a specific destination in mind. We only knew that we wanted to step out of our comfort zone, explore a faraway country, and challenge ourselves. So, without overthinking it, we pointed at the map and chose one of the most remote destinations we could imagine: New Zealand.

After 28 hours of flying, with backpacks on our shoulders and a strong desire for adventure, we landed without a clear plan (rookie mistake… which cost us a few headaches!). But it was precisely this uncertainty that made our journey even more authentic and unforgettable.

Once, traveling simply meant setting off, but today it's a whole different story. With strict visas, evolving regulations, and the requirement to have an exit ticket, improvising has become more and more difficult. Choosing the right visa is a challenge: some allow you to work, others only to travel, some last just a few months, while others have specific requirements. In short, bureaucracy can be a real obstacle if, like us, you want to explore the world freely.

But despite all this, it was absolutely worth it. During our two months on the road, we discovered a country straight out of a dream: breathtaking landscapes, towering mountains, spectacular glaciers, and starry skies we had never seen before. Here, nature reigns supreme, and every day is an opportunity to feel small in front of its immense beauty.

If you love adventure, freedom, and journeys that push your limits, New Zealand is the perfect place for you. Sleeping under the stars, climbing legendary mountains, getting lost in ancient forests, and, with a bit of luck, witnessing the Southern Lights: this country has everything you need for a trip you’ll never forget.

And now, get ready to discover how we managed to travel here for two months on a budget, the must-have experiences, and most importantly, what NOT to do as soon as you land (spoiler: booking at least the first night of accommodation helps!).
