New Zealand

This map, created by Giulia, represents our itinerary in New Zealand… or at least it tries! 😅 Between unexpected detours, scenic roads, and a few changes of plans, the route might look a bit messy, but that's exactly what made the trip even more adventurous! 🚐✨

Do you want to discover our travel experience in this country?

Here you can find out more about it! 🌍✈️

Here are our handy tips for your next trip!

  • When

Every season is great for visiting New Zealand, it all depends on what activities you want to do! We recommend spring and summer for their mild weather, while winter is perfect for snow lovers. Autumn, on the other hand, offers breathtaking landscapes with spectacular colors. Which one will you choose?

  • Visa

To visit New Zealand, the required documents depend on your nationality and the purpose of your trip. Generally, you’ll need a passport valid for at least 3 to 6 months, an NZeTA travel visa (depending on the reason for your stay), and a return ticket to present upon arrival.

  • How to manage money

In New Zealand, we always paid with debit or credit cards, using cash only on rare occasions. We recommend withdrawing cash from ATMs (with a small fee) or exchanging it at authorized centers, definitely avoid the airport, as the rates are usually higher.

  • Language and culture

The official languages of New Zealand are English and Māori. The country’s culture is a blend of Māori traditions and European influences. New Zealand is a multicultural nation with a strong national identity, built on respect for indigenous roots, inclusion, and a deep connection to nature.

  • Cuisine

New Zealand cuisine blends British, Māori, and Pacific influences. Some must-try specialties include kumara (sweet potatoes), green-lipped mussels, fish and chips, and Hokey Pokey ice cream with crunchy caramel. For an authentic experience, try hāngī, a traditional Māori cooking method, and Manuka honey, known for its rich flavor and health benefits.

  • Accommodation

Accommodation in New Zealand can be expensive, but staying in campsites or vans helps save money. We chose safe motels (nothing like the ones in movies), cars (not recommended), and campervans in authorized areas. Free camping is allowed almost everywhere, except in designated zones, and there are many campsites available across the island, some of which can even be booked last minute.

  • Transports

New Zealand is a country where it's almost impossible to travel without a car. Unless you’re staying in the major cities, renting one is essential. Remember, you’ll need a credit card to rent a car. To save money, we recommend booking with a relocation deal, although it comes with some time restrictions.
